Image to GLB for Shopify and Ecommerce: Requirements
A source-backed workflow for generating, validating, and handing off a GLB to Shopify, Google Merchant, Amazon, or a custom store.
Turning an image into a GLB is only the production step. Ecommerce deployment also requires validation, platform eligibility, hosting or upload, and a live-page review.
Neyvo3D generates and lets you inspect a product model. It does not publish the model to Shopify, Amazon, Google Merchant, or another sales channel for you.
Why GLB is used for web 3D
Khronos defines glTF as a royalty-free runtime 3D asset delivery format designed for efficient transmission and loading. GLB is the single-binary-container form of glTF, so geometry, scene data, and embedded resources can travel as one file.
That makes GLB useful for delivery, but it is not a promise that every platform accepts every valid GLB. Each channel has its own size, quality, category, account, and review rules.
Shopify 3D model requirements
Shopify's current product media documentation accepts GLB and USDZ files up to 500 MB. Shopify says models over 15 MB are automatically optimized, and its conversion process makes GLB and USDZ versions available for Android- and iOS-based experiences.
Those are Shopify's platform limits, not a recommended performance budget. A 500 MB upload allowance does not mean a 500 MB model is appropriate for a product page. Test the actual theme, devices, connection speeds, and visual quality.
A practical Shopify handoff is:
- generate and review the model;
- download the eligible full-quality GLB;
- add it through Shopify's product-media workflow;
- verify the published product page in the active theme;
- test touch rotation, load time, materials, and fallback media.
Google Merchant 3D model requirements
Google's current virtual_model_link specification supports glTF and GLB URLs. It recommends a 10 MB model and says the file should not exceed 15 MB. The URL must be valid, publicly crawlable, and point to the model. Google also recommends validating the asset.
Eligibility is narrower than the file format alone. Google's current help pages list category and country restrictions, and those details can change. Check the current Merchant Center documentation and account diagnostics instead of assuming that a valid GLB will display.
Amazon 3D and AR
Amazon's 3D and AR page describes View in 3D, View in Your Room, and Virtual Try-On for eligible products. Sellers can upload an existing model through Seller Central when it meets Amazon's technical and quality requirements, or use supported creation services.
Amazon, not Neyvo3D, determines account, category, asset, and listing eligibility. “GLB generated successfully” and “accepted by Amazon” are separate states.
Custom and headless storefronts
For a custom storefront, your implementation owns the viewer, hosting, cache policy, responsive behavior, accessibility, fallback images, and analytics. GLB is the asset; it is not the full storefront feature.
Use a tested viewer and serve the model with the correct content type. Keep a static product image available for devices or browsers that cannot render the 3D experience.
Validation checklist before publishing
- Compare silhouette and materials with the physical SKU.
- Open the GLB in a second viewer.
- Run the official Khronos glTF Validator.
- Resolve validation errors and evaluate warnings.
- Confirm texture and model size against the destination's current limits.
- Test the live page on representative mobile and desktop devices.
- Verify that product analytics distinguish viewer load, interaction, and purchase.
- Keep a fallback image and a rollback path.
GLB versus USDZ, STL, and authoring files
- GLB/glTF targets runtime delivery across web and 3D applications.
- USDZ is commonly used in Apple-oriented AR workflows and is accepted by Shopify.
- STL primarily carries geometry and is common in 3D-printing workflows; it is not Neyvo3D's current output.
- Authoring and CAD formats retain editing or engineering information that a delivery GLB may not contain.
Choose the format required by the destination, not the one with the most familiar extension.
Frequently asked questions
Can I upload a Neyvo3D GLB directly to Shopify?
Shopify accepts GLB product media, but your team must still upload it and test the active theme. Review the model first and follow Shopify's current requirements.
Does Google host the GLB for me?
The Merchant attribute requires a publicly reachable model URL. Your commerce or asset infrastructure must provide that URL.
Does Neyvo3D publish to marketplaces?
No. Neyvo3D generates, previews, and provides eligible downloads. Your platform controls upload, hosting, approval, and publication. See the complete 3D ecommerce workflow.
