2D to 3D for Business: Requirements Before You Scale

A business checklist for moving from one image-to-3D experiment to a repeatable ecommerce catalog workflow.

A business does not need only a 2D-to-3D converter. It needs a repeatable way to choose source images, approve models, control costs, publish assets, and measure outcomes.

This checklist covers the requirements that are easy to miss when a promising one-off demo becomes a catalog workflow.

1. Define the use case

Write down where the model will appear and what decision it supports:

  • interactive product detail page;
  • Shopify product media;
  • eligible Amazon 3D or AR experience;
  • eligible Google Merchant 3D listing;
  • custom storefront viewer;
  • campaign, video, or downstream creative work.

The destination determines the file budget, required accuracy, review owner, and publishing process.

2. Establish an input standard

Choose a consistent product-photo convention: one SKU, complete silhouette, simple background, soft light, sharp focus, and no props. Keep the original SKU identifier with the image and generated asset.

Neyvo3D's current public workflow is Single-View and accepts one JPG, PNG, or WebP up to 6 MB, with each side between 128 and 5,000 pixels. If your operation requires several angles in one generation request, that is outside the current public product scope.

3. Create an acceptance standard

Define what must match the sellable product:

  • silhouette and major parts;
  • front, side, and rear plausibility;
  • material regions and visible branding;
  • correct orientation and scale behavior;
  • successful GLB validation;
  • acceptable file size and load performance.

Assign a person who can compare the model with the physical SKU. Generation completion is an operational state, not a business approval.

4. Confirm output and channel compatibility

Neyvo3D currently delivers GLB when download access allows it. Shopify accepts GLB and USDZ under its current product-media requirements. Google Merchant accepts glTF/GLB model links with specific hosting and file requirements in its current specification. Amazon has separate eligibility and quality workflows.

Build a channel matrix and recheck it before each rollout. A platform can change limits, eligibility, or review behavior without changing your source asset.

5. Set ownership and rights rules

Use only product images and marks that your organization is authorized to process. Record the source, SKU, approver, generation date, model version, and intended channels.

Generated output should not be assumed to remove third-party rights, marketplace rules, or contractual restrictions. If ownership or licensing is material, have qualified counsel review the applicable terms and source rights.

6. Budget for accepted models

Track:

  • Credits or generation fees;
  • capture and retouching time;
  • review and rework;
  • validation and optimization;
  • platform implementation;
  • storage and delivery;
  • monitoring and updates.

7. Plan publishing and rollback

For every channel, identify who uploads or hosts the GLB, how it is connected to a SKU, what fallback appears when 3D cannot load, and how the asset can be removed.

Run the Khronos glTF Validator and a second viewer before platform upload. Then test the live product page on representative devices.

8. Measure a pilot before scaling

Choose a representative 10–20 SKU pilot. Track input pass rate, generation completion, model approval, average review time, cost per accepted model, viewer performance, and the selected business outcome.

Scale only after the team knows which products pass, why models fail review, and how channel publication works.

A minimum operating record

For each model, keep:

  • SKU and product name;
  • source image reference;
  • selected generation option and Credit cost;
  • generated model/version identifier;
  • reviewer and approval date;
  • validation result;
  • target channel and publication status;
  • replacement or removal history.

This record makes catalog updates, support, and compliance review much easier than relying on filenames alone.

Is one good result enough to approve a vendor or workflow?

No. Use a representative pilot that includes easy, average, and difficult products.

Do I need a 3D specialist?

Not necessarily for every generation, but someone must own visual approval, channel implementation, and exception handling.
